Recording artist Ja Rule has launched an astonishing attack on the American Government, claiming that they have launched a war on rap and hip-hop.
The rapper made the claim outside a New York courtroom after music moguls Irving (Irv Gotti) and Christopher (Chris Gotti) Lorenzo went on trial charged with building their hip-hop empire, Murder Inc, on drug money stuffed in shopping bags.
If convicted, 34-year-old Irving and 38-year-old Chris Lorenzo face up to 20 years in prison and the loss of millions.
Speaking outside Brooklyn Federal Court, Ja Rule said "It's a war on hip-hop."
He added that the US government "doesn't like to see young black men help others who have criminal records."
The prosecution claims the Lorenzo brothers' music company was a money laundering operation for leading drug dealer, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, and they were using him for protection.
Ja Rule was joined by Murder Inc labelmate Ashanti in the courtroom on the opening day of the trial. The Lorenzo brothers deny all charges.
